I’ve grappled with depression on and off most of my life. Sometimes it sneaks up and I don’t notice the slide into it. Sometimes I feel the sinking before the horizon line even changes.

This time I have been overly aware of the earth closing in around me. Slow motion and silent. It reminds me that while we were warned about quicksand as children, we weren’t told it was a metaphor.

This sort of thing is still going on. It has a name. So when you hear big corporations bragging about the social good they’re doing, ask for receipts.

a tweet about Chevron spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on an ad campaign to tell people they spent five thousand on butterfly conservation

Aaron S.: And since that time the oil companies have been employing the EXACT same marketing companies for sowing doubt about global warming that spent decades sowing doubt about there being any health problems with smoking.

Since we’re talking about mental health, beware when I start talking about needing bangs. Even more alarming, if I say I might be entering a hat phase. 🫠

Cassandra W.: Please not the hat phase

Piso Ray: Like what kind of hats?

Radha Krueger: Piso Ray no.

Radha Krueger: Piso Ray you’re allowed to go through a hat phase. Go wild 😜

Welp, I won. 💃🦝🌿✂️

selfie of a person clearly doing yard work with messy hair and holding branch clippers

Amber Tee: Don’t do it, Radha! Don’t cut bangs! 🚫

Aaron S.: I also used the snipper thingies. I did not win.

Cassandra W.: If we ever have a zombie apocalypse, I claim this Radha for my team

Nellie S.: Obviously I’m wondering what the plant was…

Nellie S.: Ergh…please be a plant…

Piso Ray: 👀

Derek W.: this is the Rosie for the new millennium

Radha Krueger: Nellie it was a huge cape honeysuckle bush that died in the freeze at Christmas. The roots are coming back, but the huge, dead thicket didn’t want to get hacked down. 💪✂️🌿
