Okay, y’all. I’ve been living in the South for most of my life. What’s with back-eyed peas and New Year?

The cynical part of my soul knows today is an arbitrary, made up day that isn’t a magic shake of the Etch-a-Sketch. But that we’re able gather as a people and throw our unquenchable hope into the stroke of midnight and know that, despite the dumpster fire of the year, the worst is behind us is magical in itself. That being said, you can hope and dream about a better 2021, but also craft the new world you want to see. Stand up. Take action. Do a thing. Every day. Challenge yourself to be an agent of hope for your community. Maybe next year at midnight we can hope to have a year just as amazing as 2021 became.
