My turn. I buried one of my own cats this morning. It never gets easier. Grief never heals over. But I would rather this than let my heart harden to the cruelties of our world. It’s always worth trying to help.
It’s hard to be sure until next dinner feeding and taking role call, but I think it was Toast, the kitty that got stuck on my fence and landed me in the ER for the rabies vaccine. (Black cat hit by car is hard to ID.) It was a challenge to bury him without encountering one of the other cats I laid to rest here, and spoiler, I did misjudge where to dig the hole. Baby Cakes attended the burial.

This year, we are voting. Often and aggressively.
Not at the ballot box.
At checkout. With your hard earned American dollars.
Support local businesses. Buy into the circular economy. Find out who our true allies are across companies and only spend your money there. Demand better or cut them off. Billionaires put their money into politics to harm you. It’s your job to take that power away.
Jesse N.: Well Publix is on the no shopping list.
Amber Tee: If it’s in your budget, Fresh Market is still good, as is Earth Origins, I’m pretty sure. If you’re not in Gainesville or can manage delivery, Kroger is still good. Also Costco.
Obviously Life Unplastic is good. Not sure on Ward’s? Trader Joe’s is mostly good? And technically, even though Whole Foods is owned by Amazon, it has its own CEO and set of standards and still mentions inclusive people practices on its webpage. And even though I have some personal beef with Chewy, it is still on the good list for now.
That being said, my family – including my cats – have a lot of of special dietary needs and certain things can only be found at certain stores. So, as a shopaholic, I am having to teach myself to purchase only the needs and not the wants when I have to shop at certain stores. I can still make an impact.
Radha Krueger: Amber Tee it’s definitely that whole “many people practicing imperfectly rather than a few doing everything best.” This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Radha Krueger: Jivana GRU opened up their customer lot on the other side of the buildings (SE 4th Ave & 4th St) and there’s plenty of parking over there.
Fred S.: Last year all the food and drink vendors had huge lines. We went to the Boxcar instead. Could be worse, I suppose.

Bobby J.: yeah food is always a bit chaotic at the Faire, having it downtown for other food places to take some of the heat is nice.

January 25, 2025 (Friday) – “Last night the Senate confirmed former Fox News Channel weekend host Pete Hegseth as the defense secretary of the United States of America. As Tom Bowman of NPR notes, since Congress created the position in 1947, in the wake of World War II, every person who has held it has come from a senior position in elected office, industry, or the military. Hegseth has been accused of financial mismanagement at the small nonprofits he directed, has demonstrated alcohol abuse, and paid $50,000 to a woman who accused him of sexual assault as part of a nondisclosure agreement. He has experience primarily on the Fox News Channel, where his attacks on “woke” caught Trump’s eye.”
